Poland prioritizes heavy IFV and armored vehicle development

Overview

Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) announced plans to present a prototype of a heavy infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) at the 2026 International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce, Poland. President Adam Leszkiewicz stated the company will also showcase the first platoon of its domestic anti-drone protection system. The exhibition will feature a broad range of products including satellite communications, 155-mm ammunition, and service expertise for platforms such as Patriot, Abrams, Leopard, MiG, and F-16. PGZ also intends to provide updates on its collaboration with Anduril regarding the Barracuda-500M loitering missile and progress in the K2 program.

Beyond the IFV, PGZ highlighted ongoing work on the OSA and SAN programmes and new rocket-system developments. In a separate strategic development, Brigadier General Grzegorz Potrzuski identified the acquisition of a new, heavier wheeled armored personnel carrier (KTO) as a priority for the Polish Armed Forces, noting that existing Rosomak fleets face weight limits that restrict heavy armor and anti-drone integration.

Expanding its international industrial cooperation, PGZ executives met with leadership from the Turkish company Makine ve Kimya Endustrisi A.S. (MKE) in Warsaw. Led by CEO Ilhami Keleş, the discussions between PGZ and MKE focused on exploring joint production models, technology sharing, ammunition programs, and air defense. The meeting also addressed securing raw materials for special production to enhance defense potential and supply security in Eastern Europe. These talks included high-level engagement with Polish Deputy Minister of National Defense Paweł Bejda and the Turkish Ambassador to Poland.
