Poland proposes changes to sickness insurance rules
The Polish Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy is proposing changes to sickness insurance rules to benefit employees with multiple sources of income. The legislative project aims to allow individuals to opt into sickness insurance through a second contract, such as a mandate contract, in addition to a standard employment contract.
Under the proposed changes, voluntary contributions from a second insurance title could entitle workers to higher sickness benefits. However, a significant regulatory shift is planned for January 1, 2027, when doctors will be restricted to issuing medical certificates (L4) for only one insurance title. This change will impact individuals working simultaneously in two different roles.
