Poland proposes Military Family Card benefits
The Polish Sejm is working on a legislative project to introduce the Military Family Card, which aims to provide various discounts and privileges to service members and their families. The program is designed to cover professional soldiers, Territorial Defense Forces, certain reservists, military retirees, police officers, Border Guard officers, State Protection Service officials, and State Fire Service personnel.
Notably, the project includes volunteer firefighters (OSP) participating in rescue operations. Benefits include a 37 percent discount on single railway tickets, a 49 percent discount on long-term rail tickets, and significant reductions on passport fees: 50 percent for adults and 75 percent for children. Additionally, cardholders may access medical services outside of standard queues at facilities under the Ministry of Interior and Administration and the Ministry of National Defense, alongside discounts at selected retail chains.
While most groups receive full benefits, volunteer firefighters will not be eligible for the 49 percent long-term rail discount or priority medical services. The program is estimated to cost approximately 50 million PLN in its first year, with annual costs of around 40 million PLN thereafter. The project also proposes designating May 15 as Military Family Day.
