Poland proposes new military service structure for 2027
The Polish Ministry of National Defence has presented plans for a new military service structure to be implemented in 2027. The proposal aims to better align human resources with the needs of the Armed Forces and improve the management of personnel reserves.
Under the proposed framework, the military service will be divided into several categories. Active service will include professional military service, territorial military service, voluntary and compulsory basic military service, and service during mobilization or war. The professional military service component is projected to include up to 20,000 people, an increase of 6,500 compared to 2026.
The reserve system will be split into active and passive categories. The active reserve, consisting of sworn individuals ready for regular exercises, is projected at up to 8,700 people. The passive reserve, which includes citizens up to age 60 (or 63 for officers and non-commissioned officers) who have regulated military service status, could involve up to 200,000 people for training or disaster relief operations.
The Ministry emphasized that the figures provided in the project represent the maximum possible thresholds for call-ups and will not be exceeded.
