Poland proposes new traffic sign to curb mobile phone use

Poland’s Institute for Civic Works has submitted a proposal to Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak for a new traffic warning sign aimed at pedestrians using mobile phones. The institute recommends a pilot rollout in selected locations, followed by a nationwide awareness campaign timed with World Mobile Phone No‑Use Day on 15 July. The draft design features a red‑framed, yellow‑background triangle depicting a pedestrian focused on a phone, with possible wording such as “Attention – Pedestrians Using Mobile Phones” or “Attention – Traffic Participants Distracted by Phones”. The sign is intended for installation at crosswalks, intersections, school and university zones, public‑transport stops, train stations, shopping centres and other high‑pedestrian‑traffic areas to help prevent accidents caused by phone‑related distraction.
