Polish cities roll out extensive road, tram and rail upgrades

Local authorities across Poland are carrying out a series of transport infrastructure upgrades. In Katowice, 282 pedestrian crossings have been illuminated since 2020 and seven more were completed recently, with further locations planned. Warsaw is modernising tram lines between Plac Narutowicza and Plac Zawiszy, adding bus‑priority lanes and temporary bus routes. Krakow opened the second carriageway on Lublańska Street to improve traffic flow as part of a fast‑tram project. Rzeszów is refurbishing a footbridge on the Katowice Szopienice Południowe station and carrying out bridge work on al. Batalionów Chłopskich. In the southeast, the rail line 25 between Sandomierz and Chmielów was modernised, enabling new long‑distance services from July 2026, and PKP will restore passenger traffic on this line in July 2026. The A2 motorway’s Poznań‑Krzesiny junction is seeing accelerated works on several slip‑roads, aiming to finish in about five weeks. Additional projects include a new 3‑km road segment between Pomorze and Grędzice, a rebuilt Lublańska carriageway in Krakow, and temporary traffic schemes on various city streets. These works aim to boost safety, reduce congestion and improve public‑transport reliability for residents.
