Poland reaches 855,000 heat pump installations amid climate goal concerns

Approximately 855,000 heat pumps are currently operating in Polish households, according to estimates from the Polish Economic Institute. While the market is growing, experts express concern that the current pace of installation may be insufficient to meet Poland's ambitious climate targets for 2030 and 2040.

Under the more ambitious variant of the National Energy and Climate Plan, Poland aims to have 1.6 million heat pumps in residential buildings by 2030 and 3.3 million by 2040. However, current market dynamics suggest a more conservative scenario (WEM) might be more likely, projecting 1.16 million units by 2030 and 2.6 million by 2040.

In conjunction with heating technology adoption, thermal modernization remains a critical component of energy efficiency. This includes improving wall insulation using materials such as mineral wool, polystyrene, or PUR foam to reduce heat loss and lower operational costs.
