Poland readies Łask air base for first F-35 fighter jets

Poland's 32nd Tactical Air Base in Łask has received U.S. certification for its expanded infrastructure and is set to receive the first F‑35 Lightning II fighters by the end of May. The modernised facility includes a large‑scale hangar with a 120‑metre‑wide opening, advanced technical and logistical systems, and a highly secured zone that limits access to authorised personnel only.

The arrival of the first of the 32 purchased F‑35s, nicknamed “Husarz,” marks a generational shift for the Polish Air Force. Pilots and technical staff are currently undergoing training in the United States, with deliveries slated to continue through 2029. A second squadron is planned for the 21st Tactical Air Base in Świdwin. The programme, costing roughly $4.6 billion, enhances Poland’s NATO‑integrated defence capabilities and represents one of the country’s largest defence acquisitions.

The construction of the Łask modernisation employed around 5,000 workers and was completed ahead of schedule, creating one of Europe’s most advanced F‑35 support zones.
