Poland recalls regional cheeses due to Listeria contamination
The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) in Poland has issued an urgent recall for several varieties of regional cheeses due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Official testing by the Veterinary Inspection found the bacteria in five out of five samples tested from the affected batches.
Consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can lead to listeriosis, a serious illness that can cause meningitis, sepsis, and other severe health complications. The risk is particularly high for seniors, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women.
The recalled products belong to batch number 261. 2026/M and include various forms of 'Gałka' and 'Tabliczka' regional cheeses, such as natural, smoked, garlic, and pepper varieties. Specific expiration dates mentioned include 18.10.2026 and 07.11.2026. Authorities are monitoring the removal of these products from retail stores, and consumers are advised not to eat them and to contact a doctor if symptoms of poisoning appear.
