European food safety and Listeria contamination alerts

Overview

In mid-October 2026, several European countries issued food safety alerts regarding contaminated products. In Montenegro, authorities prevented over 82,000 kilograms of imported goods from entering the market due to pesticide and aflatoxin levels exceeding permitted limits. Simultaneously, Slovakia and Croatia issued recalls for meat products, specifically ‘Hovädzí tatarák Premium’ and ‘Dalmatinska panceta’, due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

In Poland, the situation regarding Listeria monocytogenes became more specific as the Main Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) issued an urgent recall for regional cheeses produced by Mlecz Ser Górskie Sp. z o. o. Official testing by the Veterinary Inspection confirmed the presence of the bacteria in five out of five samples tested from batch 261.2026/M. The affected products include various ‘Gałka’ and ‘Korbacz’ or ‘Tabliczka’ cheese varieties, such as natural, smoked, garlic, and pepper types. Authorities warned that consuming these products could lead to listeriosis, a serious illness posing high risks to seniors, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.
