Poland recalls two batches of Vamfoli oncology drug due to contamination

The Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector (GIF) in Poland has ordered the immediate nationwide recall of two batches of the injectable oncology medication Vamfoli 50 mg/5 ml (Leucovorin Calcium). The decision follows reports of visible foreign particles and floating matter found within intact vials.

The affected batches are BLPI2421YD (expiry 10.2026) and BLPI2511YC (expiry 02.2027). Vamfoli is used in cancer treatment to reduce the toxicity of chemotherapy or to enhance the effectiveness of certain anticancer drugs.

The issue was brought to the attention of the GIF by the pharmaceutical wholesaler MEDYK-LEK Panek following complaints from the Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute in Warsaw. The inspectorate has banned the further introduction of these specific batches into the market, citing a significant quality defect that poses a potential health risk to patients.
