Poland receives first batch of 28 South Korean K2 tanks

Poland has received its first batch of 28 K2 Black Panther tanks from South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Rotem. This delivery is part of a second executive contract signed on August 1, 2025, which aims to provide 180 tanks and various supporting vehicles to the Polish military.

The newly arrived tanks are designated to bolster the 16th Mechanized Division, particularly in the northeastern regions near the Russian border. This procurement is part of a broader strategic effort to modernize Poland's armored forces following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

The ongoing agreement includes the delivery of 116 K2GF tanks through 2027 and 64 K2PL tanks—a localized Polish version—between 2028 and 2030. The K2PL variant will involve significant technology transfer, with plans for 61 units to be manufactured at the Bumar-Łabędy plants in Gliwice, integrating Polish components and advanced defensive systems.
