Poland receives new drone detection and tracking system
A consortium of companies including Ericsson, Cellnex, Asseco, and Play has unveiled an innovative system designed to detect and track hostile drones in Poland. Presented in Krakow, the technology utilizes existing telecommunications and urban infrastructure to identify various types of unmanned aerial vehicles.
The solution employs Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technology, which transforms cellular network antennas into spatial sensory platforms. By analyzing radio wave reflections (Massive MIMO) and combining them with acoustic detection via Asseco’s ‘Puszczyk’ system, the technology can locate drones without requiring them to be connected to the network or transmitting signals.
This development aims to bolster national security, critical infrastructure protection, and airport safety. The system is intended to address limitations in current radar capabilities, particularly in light of recent airspace violations and missile incidents involving Russian hardware near the Polish border.
