Poland drone defense and detection developments
Overview
Poland is advancing its national defense capabilities through new manufacturing investments and technological implementations focused on counter-unmanned aerial systems (CUAS).
Kongsberg Gruppen announced plans to invest over 200 million PLN to establish a production and maintenance facility in the Pomeranian region. This plant will focus on detecting and combating drone threats, supporting Poland’s SAN programme and serving European customers. Serial production is expected to begin in the first half of 2028.
Simultaneously, a consortium including Ericsson, Cellnex, Asseco, and Play unveiled a drone detection and tracking system in Krakow. Utilizing Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technology, the system repurposes cellular network antennas to identify unmanned aerial vehicles. By combining radio wave analysis with acoustic detection, the technology aims to bolster national security and protect critical infrastructure, addressing current radar limitations following airspace violations near the Polish border.
