Poland traffic safety crackdown and multiple road accidents

Polish police carried out a series of road‑safety operations in July 2026, checking motorcycles, e‑scooters, taxis and passenger‑vehicle drivers. The actions resulted in dozens of citations for speeding, riding without a licence and other violations, and led to the detention of several intoxicated motorists, including drivers of an Audi, a Fiat, a truck and a tractor‑trailer whose blood‑alcohol levels ranged from 1 ‰ to over 3 ‰.

Separate incidents across the country caused serious injuries and deaths. A 19‑year‑old bus driver in Częstochowa was charged after his vehicle entered a railway crossing at a red signal, delaying 50 trains. A motorcyclist and passenger were killed near Pasłęk, and a collision between a 77‑year‑old car driver and a motorcyclist in Chorzele left the rider hospitalized. In Lubień, a driver fled the scene after a head‑on crash, later arrested and charged with multiple offences. Courts also sentenced a driver to 15 years for a fatal Wisłostrad crash that claimed a father and son.

These events highlight a continued focus by authorities on curbing dangerous driving behaviour and enforcing traffic regulations throughout Poland.
