Poland: Rising electric scooter accidents spark safety concerns
Authorities in Poland are reporting a significant increase in accidents involving electric scooters, particularly among children and adolescents. In the Silesian region, 87 accidents have been recorded since the beginning of 2026, resulting in 88 injuries and two deaths. This represents an upward trend compared to the same period in 2025, when there were 79 accidents and 84 injuries.
In Jaworzno, the number of collisions and accidents involving electric scooters has increased eightfold over the last three years. Common violations identified by police include excessive speed, failure to wear helmets, failing to yield right-of-way, carrying passengers, and using mobile phones while riding.
Local law enforcement and municipal services have attempted to organize educational meetings to raise awareness among parents and youth, though engagement has been low. Officials emphasize that parents play a critical role in teaching safe road habits to prevent life-altering consequences.
