On Saturday, August 22, a 26-year-old driver, Hubert B., lost control of a Volkswagen Golf and drove onto a sidewalk near the intersection of Solna and Nadwiślańska streets. The vehicle struck a family, killing two 32-year-old parents and leaving their eight-month-old infant in critical condition.

Preliminary investigations indicate the driver was traveling at approximately 70 km/h in a 30 km/h zone. Hubert B. has been charged with causing a fatal accident and has been placed in temporary detention for three months. He has not admitted guilt, citing uneven road surfaces as a factor.

In response to the tragedy, approximately 200 residents held a “Hour of Silence” protest to honor the victims and demand action from authorities. Acting Mayor Stanisław Kracik announced that while a local inspection found no municipal negligence, the city will preemptively install speed bumps and chicanes in the area this week to prevent future incidents. The prosecutor's office has also secured surveillance footage that may serve as key evidence in the ongoing investigation.
