Poland postpones e‑prescription split launch to July, pilot begins June 18

The Ministry of Health announced that the nationwide rollout of a system allowing a single e‑prescription to be filled at multiple pharmacies will be delayed until 1 July. The original target of 18 June was moved to give pharmacies more time for technical and organisational preparation, after consultations with the National Pharmacy Chamber.

A pilot version of the split‑prescription scheme starts on 18 June. It enables patients to obtain parts of a prescribed medication from different pharmacies using the same e‑prescription code. Participation is voluntary, and the pilot was previously tested in pharmacies in Łódź and Kalisz with positive results. The system will automatically track the number of packages dispensed and will limit single‑fill quantities where dosage instructions are unclear.

Separately, non‑governmental organisations representing patients and seniors discussed broader reforms to elevate pharmacies to full health‑care service hubs. They called for amendments to Polish pharmacy law to allow services such as medication reviews, vaccine administration, home delivery and the use of public discount cards. These proposals build on a recent EU Court of Justice ruling that bans on comparative pharmacy advertising are incompatible with EU law.
