Poland rolls out new voluntary military service and fire drill test

On 8 June Poland's Military Recruitment Centre in Chełm launched the fifth edition of the Voluntary Basic Military Service programme, offering civilians training in basic soldiering, tactics, first aid and equipment handling. The eight‑week course will be held in Zamość, Lublin, Hrubieszów, Dęblin and Biała Podlaska, with participants receiving a stipend and the possibility of continuing a career in the Polish Armed Forces. Colonel Marek Kubicki highlighted the program as a chance to develop discipline, teamwork and job‑market skills.

Separately, the 10th Communication Brigade in Wrocław conducted a planned fire‑alarm drill at the Krzyki barracks. The exercise simulated a building fire, triggering full evacuation of soldiers and civilian staff, and involved rapid response by two State Fire Service units and medical personnel. Inspectors used the drill to assess coordination between military and civil emergency services and to identify procedural improvements for future real‑world incidents.
