Poland RTV subscription can be avoided by deregistering with Poczta Polska

In Poland the monthly RTV (radio‑television) fee is 30.50 zł for a TV set and 9.50 zł for a radio. The fee can be legally avoided by deregistering the receiving equipment with Poczta Polska. The process can be completed online on the post office’s website or in person at any branch, requiring the device’s registration number, the owner’s ID and a signed statement. Deregistration does not cancel the fee for the month in which it is done; payment for that month remains due. Failure to deregister while still owning a device can result in a fine of up to 915 zł.

Retirees may qualify for exemptions. Persons aged 75 years receive an automatic exemption. Those aged 60 years or older with a pension not exceeding 50 % of the average monthly wage (in 2026, 4 451,78 zł gross) must also submit the exemption paperwork at a post office. Other groups, such as persons with severe disabilities or war veterans, are similarly exempt after providing documentation. The exemption becomes effective from the first day of the month following the submission of the required documents, and it does not apply retroactively.
