Poland says river Bóbr water safe for drinking, recreation

Regional authorities in Lower Silesia reported that field surveys carried out on 12–13 July 2026 found no dead fish in the Bóbr River and that microbiological water quality remained stable and within standards for bathing water. The water supplied to residents from deep‑well intakes is confirmed safe for consumption.

Measurements taken at several sites showed temperatures around 20 °C, pH values between 6.9 and 9.6, conductivity near 260 µS/cm and dissolved‑oxygen levels generally above 7 mg l⁻¹. No cyanobacterial bloom was detected. An isolated exceedance of enterococci (780 CFU 100 ml⁻¹) was recorded at the Nielestno sampling point on 8 July, while other points stayed within limits.

The regional governor’s decree restricting any use of the river—from swimming and animal watering to fishing and boat traffic—between the Pilchowice Dam and the Rakowice reservoir remains in force until a full safety assessment is completed. A crisis‑management team meeting was scheduled for 13 July to review the situation and decide on any further actions.
