Poland school attack: 10-year-old injured in axe assault

A 10-year-old girl was attacked with an axe by an 11-year-old student in a school located in the Kolno municipality of the Podlaskie region. The victim, Nikola, sustained serious injuries, including two head wounds—one involving a skull fracture—as well as deep wounds on her back and a broken thumb. Medical professionals noted that the axe strike stopped at the final layer of the skull.

Nikola has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home. While she has returned to the school building to meet with a psychologist, she has not yet resumed regular classes. Her parents expressed deep concern regarding her mental health, noting that the girl has begun to blame herself and expressed feelings of social isolation within the school.

The attacker remains hospitalized in Białystok, and the case is being handled by the family court in Łomża. The victim's parents have voiced concerns regarding school safety and the potential return of the assailant to the same educational institution.
