Poland school supply costs average 1,588 PLN per student

Preparing a first-grade student for school costs an average of 1,588 PLN, according to data from CBOS. This total includes essential school supplies as well as various fees incurred at the beginning of the school year.

The largest portions of the budget are typically consumed by clothing and sports footwear, followed by backpacks or school bags. Backpack prices vary significantly, with entry-level models starting around 120 PLN, while more expensive options can cost several hundred PLN. Experts recommend choosing ergonomic backpacks with stiffened backs to support a child's posture, noting that an empty backpack should weigh no more than 1–1.2 kg.

To assist families, the ‘Dobry Start’ program provides support for every student up to the age of 20, regardless of income criteria. Applications for this program can be submitted until November 30.
