Poland scrambles fighters after Russia's massive air attack on Kyiv

Russia carried out a large‑scale air assault on Kyiv, using ballistic missiles, maneuverable rockets and drones. The strike killed at least seven people and injured 24, damaging numerous residential and other buildings. The head of Kyiv’s city military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, said the explosions were heard throughout the night and that many people remain trapped under the rubble.

In reaction, Poland’s Operational Command of the Armed Forces ordered fighter jets to patrol its airspace. The command later confirmed the operation ended without any violation of Polish airspace. It also thanked NATO Air Com, the French Air Force and the Dutch armed forces for supporting the mission with aircraft and air‑defence systems, while noting that ground‑based radar and air‑defence units have returned to normal activity.
