Poland secures three Swedish A26 submarines for its navy
Poland signed a defence contract in Gdyni's naval port to acquire three fifth‑generation A26 submarines from Sweden under the Orka programme. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz, Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Bejda, Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson and other officials. The agreement calls for the submarines to be built partly at Polish shipyards, with crews initially training on a “gap‑filler” vessel identical to the new subs. The procurement aims to strengthen Baltic Sea security, support NATO’s Atlantic alliance, and enhance Poland’s ability to counter regional threats, including Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. It also deepens bilateral defence cooperation between Poland and Sweden and involves investment in the Polish defence industry.
