Poland seeks MiG‑29 exchange for drone tech with Ukraine, reforms UAV procurement
Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz announced that talks have resumed on a possible exchange of MiG‑29 fighter jets for drone technology with Ukraine. The offer, described as "Jest jasna oferta: MiG‑i za drony," would see Poland handing over the aircraft in return for Ukrainian drone‑related capabilities. Poland is among four NATO states cleared to transfer Patriot missile technology, which could eventually be produced in Ukraine.
Separately, Poland’s Ministry of Defence has simplified procedures for testing and deploying unmanned aerial systems, a reform known as decision 123. The new rules allow domestic manufacturers to submit drones and anti‑drone solutions directly to the armed forces. To date, 155 companies have responded, 5 test sessions were held and 48 solutions were evaluated, all with successful outcomes, though many did not meet all army specifications. Industry leaders such as MSP InnTech and Eurotech cite the need for faster adoption, noting that Ukrainian experience heavily informs Polish drone development.
