Poland develops multi-layered air defense system amid production talks
Poland is currently developing a multi-layered, integrated air defense system involving investments exceeding 200 billion PLN. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that the system, which includes Wisła, Narew, Pilica, and anti-drone programs, is still under construction with further components arriving in the coming years.
A political debate has emerged following comments by Brigadier General Michał Marciniak, Deputy Head of the Armament Agency, who stated that large Polish cities are not currently covered by permanent anti-missile systems stationed around them. The Ministry of National Defence responded by clarifying that air defense is a mobile, integrated system. Rather than permanent placement around cities, assets are deployed based on threat assessments and national priorities to protect critical infrastructure and administrative centers.
In a separate development, Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka announced that a decision regarding a license for Patriot missile production in Poland is expected within the next one to two months. This follows discussions with the United States to address production shortages in the American defense industry.
