Poland proposes new doctor salary caps, higher pay for managers
Poland's Ministry of Health has drafted an amendment to limit doctors' earnings. The maximum monthly salary for a doctor on a single full‑time contract is set at 38,448 zł gross (eight times the minimum wage). For doctors working two full‑time contracts – roughly 320 hours per month – the cap rises to 76,896 zł gross (sixteen times the minimum wage). An exception allows managers, department heads, ordynators and transplantologists to earn up to 57,672 zł gross per month, but they must work fewer than the full 320‑hour limit. Deputy Health Minister Tomasz Maciejewski and Health Department Director Maciej Karaszewski said the exception targets positions with additional administrative duties and that the law includes narrow “loopholes” for these roles. The draft law has been sent to public consultation and the government expects to adopt it in September. False statements about work hours will be subject to criminal liability.
