Poland sees rise in Russian spy cases and youth radicalization

Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) reported that over the past two years 82 individuals were accused of espionage, of whom 62 were detained, marking an unprecedented increase in Russian intelligence activity targeting Poland and other EU/NATO members. The agency also cited a growing risk of Islamist terrorism, with 19 investigations, and noted that extremist online content is driving the radicalisation of young people, some of whom have begun preparing for attacks.

In addition, ABW highlighted a sharp escalation in cyber‑defence work, registering 40,000 IT‑security incidents and a record 5.5 million alerts—a rise of 18% year‑on‑year. The report also mentioned 180 corruption investigations affecting key economic interests.
