Poland sees rising nutrition awareness and increased berry fruit production

A Kantar Polska survey conducted in March 2026 found that 31 % of Poles recognise fruits and vegetables should make up half of daily food intake, a six‑point increase since 2020. About the same share (32 %) still view them as an addition to each meal, a trend dietitians say poses a challenge.

Average fruit consumption rose to 3.96 kg per person in 2025, up from 3.59 kg a decade earlier, according to GUS data. Apples remain the most popular fruit (87 % of respondents), followed by pears (50 %) and berries such as blueberries (44 %).

Production of berry crops also grew. GUS estimates 2025 output of fruit from bushes and berry plantations at 489.7 thousand tonnes, 1.7 % higher than the previous year. Harvests of raspberries increased 2.9 % to 79.1 thousand tonnes, blackcurrants rose 12 % to 112.3 thousand tonnes, and highbush blueberries grew 4.3 % to 64.7 thousand tonnes. Dietitian Dr Joanna Neuhoff‑Murawska highlighted the nutritional benefits of berries for cardiovascular health and cognitive function.
