Rising nutritional awareness in Poland
Overview
In Poland, there is a growing trend toward nutritional awareness and healthy eating habits. Data from 2025 and 2026 indicate that more citizens recognize the importance of fruit and vegetable intake, with average fruit consumption rising to 3.96 kg per person in 2025. This shift is accompanied by an increase in berry crop production, including raspberries, blackcurrants, and blueberries.
As awareness grows, consumers are increasingly seeking nutritional transparency. Surveys show that 41% of respondents typically check product ingredients while shopping. This change in consumer behavior presents a challenge for the food industry, as manufacturers face pressure to improve labeling and provide better nutritional information to meet the demands of a more informed public.
A March 2026 Kantar Polska survey found that 31% of Poles recognize that fruits and vegetables should constitute half of their daily food intake, marking a six-point increase since 2020. However, approximately 32% still view these foods as merely an addition to each meal, a trend dietitians note poses a challenge.
While apples remain the most popular fruit at 87% popularity, consumption of berries like blueberries has reached 44%. This demand aligns with rising production; 2025 GUS estimates show berry plantation output reached 489.7 thousand tonnes. Specifically, raspberry harvests increased by 2.9%, blackcurrants by 12%, and highbush blueberries by 4.3%. Dietitian Dr Joanna Neuhoff-Murawska has highlighted the specific benefits of berries for cognitive function and cardiovascular health.
