Poland sees surge in dangerous railway level‑crossing collisions

Polregio has issued a safety warning after a noticeable rise in risky driver behaviour at railway level crossings across the country. The operator reports frequent attempts by motorists to cross ahead of oncoming trains, ignoring STOP signs and flashing red lights, which endangers both road users and train passengers and causes service delays.

In the Mazovian village of Kaczorowy, three separate collisions involving a rail‑bus and motor vehicles occurred within nine days at the same unguarded crossing that is marked only by a STOP sign. Each incident was linked to drivers failing to stop fully before the tracks. No serious injuries were reported, but the pattern prompted police to stress that a brief glance is insufficient; drivers must come to a complete stop and verify that the line is clear before proceeding. Authorities urge motorists to follow safety procedures and consider infrastructure improvements at high‑risk sites.
