Poland sees widespread second mushroom harvest in September

A significant second mushroom harvest is underway across various regions of Poland, driven by recent rainfall, cooler nights, and morning dew. The emergence of fungi is particularly widespread in northern and central parts of the country, including Pomerania, Lubusz, Greater Poland, and Mazovia.

In the Pomeranian Voivodeship, foragers are reporting high yields of porcini, bay boletes, xerocomus, butter boletes, and chanterelles. Some reports indicate dozens of porcini being collected in single trips. In the vicinity of Gorzów Wielkopolski, foragers have reported full baskets from single outings.

Janusz Piechociński, a former deputy prime minister and avid mushroom hunter, noted that chanterelles are currently abundant in Warmia, near Bydgoszcz, and in the Podkarpacie region. While some areas near Warsaw are seeing red xerocomus in birch groves, the availability of healthy porcini remains inconsistent and highly dependent on local soil moisture levels.
