Poland signs agreements to modernize swimming pools for accessibility

The first fifteen agreements have been signed to modernize local government swimming pools in Poland to meet the needs of people with disabilities. This initiative, part of a competition announced by the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, aims to increase inclusivity by ensuring all community members can access social and sporting services regardless of physical ability.

Funding is being provided through the European Social Fund Plus. Selected locations for these accessibility improvements include Poznań, Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Ostrołęka, Żyrardów, Będzin, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Ruda Śląska, Bielsko Podlaskie, Łomża, Wielka Nieszawka, Legnica, Bełżyce, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Zduńska Wola, Wieliczka, Korfantów, Rzeszów, and Gdańsk.

In Zduńska Wola, the project ‘Accessible Swimming Pool – Zduńska Wola for Everyone’ received 1,587,038.40 PLN. The modernization of the pool at Primary School No. 9 will involve removing architectural barriers by installing ramps, automatic doors, pool lifts, and specialized sanitary facilities such as shower seats and assistance call systems. The project also includes staff training on accessibility and organized water activities for over 200 people with special needs and their caregivers.
