Poland expands free disability support

In late July 2026 the Polish government broadened its publicly funded programs aimed at improving the wellbeing of people with disabilities and health challenges. On July 28 the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy launched the “Od zależności ku samodzielności” edition, funding sensory‑integration therapy for autistic participants and the “Prosto do sprawności” initiative in Łódź, which provides free physiotherapy, exercise classes and allied‑health workshops to residents with musculoskeletal conditions.

The following day, the Office of the Government Plenipotentiary for Persons with Disabilities introduced a free Disability Communication Centre app, offering Polish Sign Language translation, speech‑to‑text, document preparation and emergency assistance. The app is co‑financed by the EU Social Development Fund and developed with the Polish Association of the Deaf and the Polish Association for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities. Together, these moves illustrate a coordinated effort to deliver complementary health, rehabilitation and communication services at no cost, though implementation gaps remain, as highlighted by a recent report of inaccessible cinema seating.

Overall, Poland is extending a suite of free, government‑backed services to support autonomy, inclusion and everyday functionality for people with disabilities and health impairments.
