Poland to Produce US‑Made Barracuda Long‑Range Missiles Locally
On 6 July 2026, Poland’s defence minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz, Prime Minister Donald Tusk and officials from the Polish Group of Armament (PGZ) signed an agreement with US‑based Anduril Industries to produce the SL Barracuda‑500M (also referred to as Barracuda‑500) maneuverable cruise missiles in Bydgoszcz. The deal designates the Military Aviation Plant No. 2 (WZL‑2) as the assembly and future full‑production site, with an aim to manufacture several thousand low‑cost, long‑range missiles per year. The Barracuda‑500 carries a 45 kg payload and can strike targets up to 900 km away, and the partnership includes technology transfer, localisation of software, and the gradual use of Polish and European components. The project is presented as a step toward re‑industrialising Poland’s defence sector, enhancing national security, and strengthening NATO’s eastern flank.
The agreement follows broader Polish‑American defence cooperation, including the recent rotation of US troops in Poland, and is intended to give Poland a strategic capability to produce affordable, high‑range precision weapons domestically.
