India-EU Free Trade Agreement nears finalization
The India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is entering its final stages, with legal scrubbing completed and translation processes underway. Poland’s Ambassador to India, Piotr Antoni Switalski, expressed optimism that the pact could become operational by the end of the year, noting there is “no reason for delay.” While the agreement is moving toward finalization, both parties remain committed to completing all remaining formalities for a formal signing by the end of 2026.
Economic ties between the two regions are substantial, with bilateral trade in goods valued at $136.54 billion during 2024-25. The agreement is expected to be complemented by an investment protection agreement to strengthen the overall relationship.
Finland anticipates the FTA will serve as a catalyst for industrial collaboration. Finnish Trade Counsellor Antti Herlevi highlighted potential partnerships in high-growth sectors, including space technology, sustainable construction, maritime technologies, and telecommunications.
