Poland tightens greenwashing rules as ORLEN rolls out 2030 biodiversity plan

In early July, Poland’s Council of Ministers approved a draft amendment to curb greenwashing. The law bars companies from using generic environmental labels such as “eco‑friendly”, “green” or “environmentally friendly” unless backed by verifiable evidence and certified systems. If enacted, the provisions are slated to take effect on 27 September, imposing higher compliance costs but aiming to protect consumers from misleading claims.

Separately, the state‑controlled energy group ORLEN adopted a Biodiversity Action Plan covering 2024‑2030. The plan integrates biodiversity risk into the company’s sustainability strategy, aligns with EU reporting standards such as TNFD and ESRS, and sets concrete mitigation measures for new investments, including habitat preservation and reduced light, noise and vibration emissions.
