Poland to End Temporary Teacher Compensation Benefit on Aug 31, 2026

Poland's Ministry of Education (MEN) announced that the temporary regulation allowing teachers who receive a teacher‑compensation benefit to continue working in schools will cease on 31 August 2026. The rule, introduced after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine to accommodate the influx of Ukrainian pupils, will not be extended, and the ministry has no legislative plans to prolong it.

Beneficiaries of the compensation scheme – equivalent to a bridge‑pension – must either resign from school employment by the deadline or lose the monthly payment of roughly 4,475 zł. In April 2026, about 9,200 teachers were receiving the benefit, a decline from earlier years. The ministry emphasized that the temporary measure was always intended as a short‑term solution linked to the Ukrainian refugee situation.
