Poland to implement new long-distance average speed cameras
Poland is introducing significant changes to its automated traffic surveillance systems. On the A2 motorway between Warsaw and Łódź, a record-breaking average speed measurement section will be installed, spanning 48 km between Koszajec and Michałówek. This system, expected to be operational by the end of 2026, will monitor vehicles in both directions. Additionally, CANARD plans to implement further monitoring sections on the A2, including a 30 km stretch toward Łódź and a 29 km stretch toward Warsaw.
In contrast, the average speed measurement system on the southern bypass of Tarnow is scheduled for removal by the end of 2026. The General Inspectorate of Road Transport (GITD) decided to dismantle the devices on the 4.4 km stretch of national road No. 94 due to decreased traffic volume and fewer safety incidents following the opening of the A4 motorway. The cameras from the Tarnow bypass will be repurposed for more hazardous locations on Polish roads.
