Poland to implement new school nutrition regulations in 2026
New regulations regarding nutrition in schools and kindergartens are set to take effect on September 1, 2026. Based on a Ministry of Health regulation, these changes aim to support the health of children and adolescents by promoting healthy eating habits and limiting the consumption of sugar, salt, and fats.
The new rules will impact food sales in school shops and vending machines, as well as collective catering services. The objective is to increase the availability of vegetables, fruits, and whole-grain products while reducing excessive sugar intake.
These guidelines have sparked debate among parents. While some recognize the need for health education, others express concern over increasing school interference in family decisions. Parents have voiced frustration regarding school requests to restrict items in lunchboxes, such as sweets or snacks, fearing that schools are overstepping their boundaries into parental roles.
