Poland to increase RTV license fees despite abolition proposals
Poland is facing upcoming increases in RTV license fees, despite previous proposals to abolish the charge. While the Ministry of Culture had suggested eliminating the fee by January 2027 in favor of state budget subsidies, this provision was not included in the 2027 budget draft. The Ministry of Finance noted that the proposed annual subsidy of 2.5 billion PLN would be unsustainable for the state budget.
Consequently, the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has approved rate hikes for 2027. Fees are set to rise to 10.80 PLN for radio and 34.50 PLN for a television or a radio and television set. Additionally, penalties for unregistered receivers will increase to 1,035 PLN for televisions and 324 PLN for radios.
Regarding enforcement, the National Revenue Administration (KAS) continues to collect significant arrears. Data from January to July 2026 reveals record individual debt recoveries, including one instance in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship where 137,000 PLN was collected. Other high recoveries include 49,000 PLN in Lower Silesia. Unpaid debts are recovered through various methods, including bank accounts, pensions, or via bailiffs.
