Poland to introduce mandatory health education in schools from 2026

From 1 September 2026, Poland will add a compulsory subject called health education to the curricula of primary schools (grades IV–VIII) and selected secondary school classes. The Ministry of Education has set the programme to run one hour per week, covering physical and mental health, nutrition, physical activity, internet safety, addiction prevention, environmental health and, in secondary schools, the health care system.

Parents of minors may submit a written request to exempt their children from the sexual‑health module, while adult students decide for themselves. The reform aims to equip young people with practical knowledge to make informed health choices and address rising issues such as stress, addictions and unhealthy habits.
