Poland to introduce probationary period for new drivers

New driving regulations in Poland will introduce a probationary period for first-time category B license holders. Starting in September 2026, the duration of this period depends on the age of the driver: two years for those who obtain their license after turning 18, and three years for those who obtain it at age 17.

During this period, drivers must adhere to a zero-tolerance alcohol limit of 0.0 promille. If a driver accumulates 12 penalty points, they will be required to attend a mandatory practical training session at a driving technique center, costing 500 PLN.

Stricter penalties for serious offenses are also being implemented. Drivers may lose their licenses if they commit three traffic safety violations or accumulate more than 20 penalty points within their first year of driving. Additionally, committing a crime against communication safety will result in the loss of driving privileges.
