Poland to introduce standardized civil defense signage for shelter points

A new regulation draft submitted to the Government Legislation Centre by the Ministry of Interior and Administration aims to standardize the marking of shelter points across Poland. The initiative requires property owners and managers to install specific safety signage on approximately 85,000 buildings and facilities nationwide.

The signage will consist of two parts: the international civil defense symbol—a blue equilateral triangle on an orange background—and a green plaque with the white text “PUNKT SCHRONIENIA” (Shelter Point). Additionally, smaller stickers must be placed on entrance doors. These points are intended to provide protection against weather phenomena and conventional ammunition fragments, such as tunnels, metro stations, and underground garages, rather than serving as airtight combat bunkers.

Property managers, housing cooperatives, and local governments are responsible for the installation. While the regulation is expected to enter into force shortly after its official announcement, a transition period has been established, requiring all markings to be completed by December 31, 2026.
