Poland to invest 100 million PLN in Cell Broadcast emergency system
The Polish Ministry of the Interior and Administration (MSWiA) plans to implement Cell Broadcast technology to enhance emergency warnings. The government intends to allocate approximately 100 million PLN for the project, with full deployment scheduled for the second half of 2027.
Unlike the current RCB Alert system, which relies on SMS messages, Cell Broadcast sends warnings directly to mobile devices within a specific danger zone via base stations. This method does not require users to install applications or register for the service.
While the technology aims to provide faster alerts without the need for data access, some public reaction has expressed concerns regarding alert fatigue. Experts note that frequent notifications, such as those issued during recent regional tensions, may lead citizens to ignore warnings, potentially weakening public vigilance during actual emergencies.
