Poland to mandate free tap water in restaurants from August

Polish legislators are preparing a bill that would require all restaurants, bars and cafés with seating to provide up to 0.5 litre of tap water per customer free of charge. The measure mirrors a long‑standing practice in France, where a carafe of water is offered as a standard service. Intended to cut the cost for diners and reduce plastic‑bottle waste, the draft law could take effect on 12 August, though it remains under discussion and may be amended before adoption. If passed, the regulation would apply nationwide to any establishment that serves meals on premises.
