Poland to mark emergency shelters with new signage
The Polish Ministry of the Interior and Administration has announced that all emergency shelters across the country must be clearly marked in public spaces by the end of 2026. This initiative follows a recent legislative change aimed at ensuring citizens can quickly identify locations providing protection during air raids, terrorist attacks, or severe weather events.
Shelters, which are part of the national infrastructure, include various public buildings, suitable underground parking garages, and basements. To comply with the law, property owners and managers are required to install specific signage and ensure these locations are accessible during emergencies. The marking system utilizes the international civil defense symbol: a blue equilateral triangle on an orange square background, accompanied by specific text and stickers.
The State Fire Service database currently lists more than 86,000 such protection points. A public database is available to allow citizens to verify the standards and locations of these facilities.
