Poland to phase out NIP-based receipts from cash registers by 2027
Starting January 1, 2027, Polish retail cash registers will undergo a significant technological shift. According to a project by the Ministry of Finance and Economy, cash registers will no longer be permitted to issue receipts containing NIP numbers, which have previously functioned as simplified invoices.
The new regulations aim to separate retail sales reporting from invoicing processes. All invoicing duties will be transferred to the National e-Invoice System (KSeF). This change is intended to resolve inconsistencies between current retail systems and the rules for issuing structured invoices.
Industry experts note that this will require a major overhaul of retail technology. Manufacturers of cash registers and printers must update software to remove algorithms responsible for issuing and editing invoices, as well as restructure daily reporting to exclude invoice-related data.
