Poland tree removal regulations and permit requirements

Regulations regarding tree removal in Poland outline specific requirements for permits and notifications based on tree species and trunk circumference. For individuals performing removals for non-business purposes, a notification is often sufficient, though certain exemptions apply under the Nature Conservation Act.

Exemptions from notification requirements depend on the species and the trunk circumference measured at 5 cm above the ground. For example, poplars, willows, and certain maples do not require notification if the circumference is under 80 cm, while other species have a threshold of 50 cm. Fruit trees and certain removals intended to restore unused land to agricultural use may also be exempt.

Farmers must exercise caution when removing vegetation to reclaim unused land. While the law allows for the removal of trees and shrubs that have overgrown uncultivated agricultural land without a permit, this does not extend to trees growing on borders, along rivers, or beside roads on land that is already partially in use. Failure to comply with these formal requirements can result in significant administrative fines.
